Music Therapy
Music therapy is a unique and powerful discipline. This therapy incorporates the specialized use of music by a credentialed professional who develops individualized treatment and supportive interventions for people of all ages and ability levels to address their social, communication, emotional, physical, cognitive, sensory, and spiritual needs. Music Therapy utilizes clinical and evidence-based music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship.
After assessing the strengths and needs of each client, the qualified music therapist provides the indicated treatment including creating, singing, moving to, and/or listening to music. Through musical involvement in the therapeutic context, clients’ abilities can be strengthened and transferred to other areas of their lives. Music therapy also provides avenues for communication that can be helpful to those who find it difficult to express themselves in words.
Board Certified Music Therapists
The credential Music Therapist – Board Certified (MT-BC) is granted by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) to identify music therapists who have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary. This certification serves as a national standard for the profession.
